Ā Ā
While it's been a quiet overall on the social media news this week, the news that was dropped was hot hot H-O-T. š„ Ā Google, Reddit, Instagram, and Pinterest (yes, Pinterest) all had some major news this week and I, for one, have got the popcorn ready for you.Ā Ā Let's dive in. |
Google pays Reddit $60M to train its AI š³ |
Another day, another company using user data to train its AI. Last week, Google shook hands with Reddit and signed over a $60 million check to get AI training data from Reddit. Ā What exactly does this mean? Well, Google now can access Redditās data API which will help train Googleās AI, plus allow Google to push content from Reddit across its platform. Ā
You know, because Google already is aware that the best way to get an answer to your question is by Googling the question and adding āRedditā to the end of it. So now itās fully leaning into that. Ā
And Google isnāt the only one benefiting here. Reddit, alongside the nice $60m payout, gets access to Googleās Vertex AI which helps companies rank even higher on Google search ā¦ um, Google, can I get access to that? Pleaseandthankyou. Ā With the new partnership signed, it seems like the past bad blood between the two companies is resolved ā¦ at least for the time being.

Instagram testing and testing and more testing š§āš¬ |
Maybe one day Instagram will give folks what they really want on the platform, but today is not that day (and I doubt any day in the future!). Ā Instagram is testing quite a lot of new features lately and we can say ā¦ not a single one weāre that interested in (okay, maybe, like, ONE). New testing features include: Ā Backdrop: You can use a new AI āBackdropā sticker to replace the background of any image. Ā āGet Ordersā Sticker: You can now attach a product sticker to your Story or post to boost sales. Ā
Public saves: All those posts and Reels youāve saved over the years, Instagram might soon make them public for everyone. *Runs to make sure all are SFW* Ā
While the Get Orders sticker seems like a serious win for small businesses, Iām not entirely sure the other features are things anyone wants. But maybe thatās just me? š
