Ā Ā
Are you ready for this? Because I don't know if you're ready for this.Ā Ā This week in social media news is STACKED and you're going to need at least one tall beverage and maybe a snack to get through it.Ā Ā Meta has released things. TikTok and Universal are still fighting (but now TikTok doesn't seem to care?). Elon Musk is doing Elon Musk. YouTube has announced some new things. And I am here and ready to report them all to you.
Ā Let's get into it. |
Threads, Threads, and (even more) Threads! š§µ |
It seems like there is no stopping Instagram Threads as they have officially announced MORE features. Ā
While it is officially 3x more popular than X (with downloads at least), the platform seems to want to keep its users engaged and the best way to do that? By providing them with much needed features, like API. (We at Flick are rejoicing). Ā
So what kind of features we talking about? Letās dig into it: Ā
Auto-archiving posts: Yes, Head of Instagram, Adam Mosseri, has said it is discussing archiving all posts every 30 or 90 days is an option that might be coming. Ā
API testing: YAY! Huge for social media managers. Threads is working on API with selected partners to enable post scheduling on the platform Ā
Saves: If youāve been frustrated that you canāt save anything on Threads for later, be frustrated no more. Saves is officially here. Ā
Analytics: Again, massive for anyone on Threads wondering how their content is doing. Analytics has officially been tested in the wild. Ā
With the new features, Meta sure is going full steam ahead with the text-based platform. Are you into it? Or still feeling a bit meh about it all?Ā |
What is the future of social media with AI? |

Ā No more playing around with design. No more struggling to figure out the layout. Ā All you have to do is select a template and our AI Assistant will do the rest. |
YouTube wants you to Create šØ |
YouTube has taken inspo from TikTok (again) and officially launched āCreateā (AKA: its version of CapCut) in more countries. Ā
The new app, which began beta testing in the fall, is now available in Brazil, Spain, Canada, Australia, Hong Kong, and moreāin total, 21 whole countries. And it doesnāt seem to be stopping anytime soon. Ā Will any social media platform have an original idea anymore, or is it all going to be about stealing and one-upping each other? š Ā Create is exactly like CapCut and Instagramās native Reels editing tools, where you can upload videos, trim, edit, use effects, add royalty-free music and more. The clips will automatically sync with the music chosen and once the videos are all edited, you can automatically upload to YouTube. Ā Again, do we need another whole app to do this when we already have access to these features elsewhere? Iām not so sure. |
I read about that somewhere recently ... |
Oh, boy. Elon Musk has decided to undertake another project at X and that is email. Yes, you read that right. Xmail may soon be a thing. Ā
If you stepped away from the internet this week (lucky you!), you might have missed the hoax that was going around of Gmail shutting down in August. While that sparked panic around the internet (myself included), Musk decided to announce Xmail. Ā What. Ā
His response was in reply to an employee asking when Xmail was going to be a thing, and Musk responded āItās coming.ā Ā Daunting. Ā
Whether Xmail will see the light of day anytime soon is a mystery (and probably one to Musk as well), but it truly does seem like when he said the Everything App, he meant the Everything App. |
